ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy provides a unique environment apart from a person's family, friends, or co-workers to discuss problems or concerns with an experienced and empathic psychologist. Psychotherapy creates a safe and confidential place where anything can be talked about. In my approach as a psychologist, I typically tailor how I work to specific needs of the individual with whom I am meeting. For example, if a person initially feels more comfortable having me ask them questions about what brings them to my office I do that. If a person wants to launch into what is troubling them, I listen and respond when appropriate. After figuring out the immediate needs of my client, whether they are in crisis \and need urgent assistance or practical guidance of a less urgent nature and addresing those needs, we then begin to focus on the short and longterm goals that my client hopes to achieve in psychotherapy. These can range from deciding whether to change jobs to healing from longstanding anxiety or depression to discovering what would make their life more fulfulling and meaningful. This process can take a few weeks or months or sometimes span several years, depending on the specific needs and desires of my client. Typically I meet weekly with an individual, but it can be twice weekly for a period of time if a person is in crisis or feels the desire to do so. Once a person has met most of their goals and want to meet less often or on an as needed basis, I am flexible. This applies to individual, couples, adolescents or children.

My role as your psychologist is to provide guidance and insight into your challenges, both within and outside your conscious awareness. These insights then become a part of your self-knowledge that you can use in your daily life during the course of therapy and beyond. Call or email me for a confidential consultation.
